Google package
A metadata package that tells Android which Mainline modules the phone has, used by Google Play system updates. Keep it: Main components is needed for the phone, its updates or its security.
Main components is Google's build of the ModuleMetadata package, part of Android's Mainline system. It holds a list describing every updatable system module on the phone, and Android reads it at startup to answer which modules are installed and what they are called. System screens that report module versions rely on that list, and the package is updated along with the other modules.
Also shown as Module Metadata.
Android loses its list of installed modules, which can break the Google Play system update screen and module updates; community lists rate removal as unsafe.
On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.modulemetadataTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.google.android.modulemetadataThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
Uninstall for the main user
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.modulemetadataRestore after an uninstall
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.google.android.modulemetadataNew to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
Holds a list of module names; no user data.
