A Mainline module that runs core background services such as notification ranking, smart text selection and autofill matching. Keep it: Android Services Library is needed for the phone, its updates or its security.

What it does

Android Services Library is Google's build of the ExtServices Mainline module, one of the parts of Android that Google updates through Google Play system updates. It provides services the system calls constantly, including the default text classifier behind smart text selection, notification ranking and suggestions, autofill field matching, inline autofill suggestions, share target ranking and the storage cache quota service. Phones without Google's build ship the same module as com.android.ext.services.

Also shown as ExtServices.

If you disable it

Notification ranking, smart text selection, autofill suggestions and storage cache management break, and community lists rate removal as unsafe. Leave it enabled.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.ext.services

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.google.android.ext.services

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.ext.services

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.google.android.ext.services

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Works on notifications, text and form fields on the device to provide its services; Google does not document any network use.
