Samsung's wallet app for tap-to-pay cards, boarding passes, IDs, loyalty cards and digital car keys. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Samsung Wallet, formerly Samsung Pay, stores payment cards for contactless payments and also holds boarding passes, tickets, membership cards, some IDs and digital keys. You open it by swiping up from the bottom of the screen or from its icon, and it uses NFC and Samsung's payment framework to pay. Samsung publishes it on the Play Store and Galaxy Store. It runs when you pay or open it, and when card or pass updates arrive.

Also shown as Samsung Pay.

If you disable it

Tap-to-pay with Samsung Wallet stops, and passes, keys and cards stored in it become unreachable. Google Wallet is a separate app and keeps working.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > Samsung Wallet > Disable.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.spay

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.spay

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.spay

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.spay

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Stores payment tokens and passes on the phone and in your Samsung account; payments are processed with your bank and card network.
