The screens for registering and managing fingerprints and face data on Galaxy phones. Keep it: Biometrics is needed for the phone, its updates or its security.

What it does

This package provides the biometrics settings on Galaxy phones: registering fingerprints and your face, choosing what they can unlock and confirm, and removing biometric data. It is opened from Security and privacy in Settings and by apps that ask you to set up biometrics. It runs only while those screens are open.

If you disable it

You cannot register, change or remove fingerprints or face data, and apps that send you to biometric setup may fail.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.biometrics.app.setting

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.biometrics.app.setting

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.biometrics.app.setting

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.biometrics.app.setting

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Works with biometric templates kept in the phone's secure hardware; nothing is uploaded.
