What it does
YouTube is Google's app for watching, uploading and commenting on videos, Shorts and live streams. It comes preinstalled as a system app on phones that ship Google apps, so most phones offer Disable instead of Uninstall for it. It refreshes recommendations and downloads in the background only when you use those features.
If you disable it
The YouTube app disappears and video links open in the browser. Nothing else depends on it.
How to disable it
Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > See all apps > YouTube > Disable.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.youtubeTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.google.android.youtubeThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
Uninstall for the main user
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.youtubeRestore after an uninstall
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.google.android.youtubeNew to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
