Android's basic sound equalizer that music apps can open for bass boost and preset sound effects. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

MusicFX is the open source audio effects panel with an equalizer, bass boost, virtualizer and presets. Music and video apps that offer an equalizer button can open it to adjust their audio, and phone makers often replace it with their own sound settings. It runs only while effects are applied to an app's audio.

If you disable it

Equalizer buttons in music apps that use it stop opening; audio plays normally without effects.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.musicfx

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.android.musicfx

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.musicfx

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.android.musicfx

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Nothing beyond your equalizer settings.
