What it does

Device Health Services is a Google background app that studies how you use the phone to estimate how much battery time is left and to support battery features in Settings. Google moved it out of the system image in 2017 so it could update it through the Play Store, although its public store listing is no longer available. It runs in the background and has no icon. Google has not published current documentation for it, so its role today is known from press coverage and community analysis.

If you disable it

Community reports say the remaining battery time estimate and parts of the battery settings stop working, and battery optimizations that learn from your usage may behave differently.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.apps.turbo

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.google.android.apps.turbo

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.turbo

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.google.android.apps.turbo

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Reads battery and app usage statistics on the device to build its estimates; Google has not published what, if anything, it sends.
